She must be talking about the Las Vegas Strip...If she is paying that much for electric, she don't need solar panels she needs a U-haul Truck!!!!

  • More access for DIY is needed. Cut costs, buy parts for for your specific needs then hire the appropriate installer/electrician to connect it together. I see Walmart and Home Depot are just getting starting to sell the panels while battery technology is rapidly evolving. you can get many different parts from Amazon or battery companies themselves. There are many videos explaining how to put together a system that best fits your needs. We can make Americans energy self sufficient; every new roof should be required to have them. While some worry about ROI on a system, if you move, it’s a selling point now. And electricity rates will only go up so the ROI might be shorter than when first calculated.

    Patrick FitzgeraldPatrick Fitzgerald9 күн мурун
    • @Greg Peterman ok, move to Flint, MI. Clean water act eliminated. There. I think a state or two might have it on their agendas already. And some newer communities have already been built that do that and it’s a selling point. There’s an interesting community experiment going on in Babcock Florida. There’s a real estate agent that has done several videos that, unusual in this day and age, show the pros and cons of buying and living there. It’s interesting but I would probably not choose moving there.

      Judgy JudgertonJudgy Judgerton3 күн мурун
    • @Judgy Judgerton The Government should make Americans strive to be more autonomous and self reliant. New houses should only be allowed to be built if they are solar powered, have heat pumps, low energy needed and produce more electricity than the house and it's people consume. The additional electricity should be stored in batteries for the house first, than if still electricity overproduction the remaining electricity should be shared to other houses and flats that are older and have not solar panel powered installations. The government would give a tax credit cut for the owners supplying other homes with free electricity in accordance to the amount of the provided overproduced electricity. Over the years in the USA way less need of middle eastern crude oil or gas for heating, more self reliable USA and less wars for resources.

    • THE REAL ZENFORCE I’m guessing you are right. That’s why our country has to alter its complete market based mentality, it only goes so far.

    • @Greg Peterman Try refusing to pay the bill in European countries, after some weeks the court will order you to pay or an appointed bailiff will knock on your door with cops, take your goods up to the amount in the bill or if you cannot pay you will be prosecuted and possibly go to jail or the amount will be taken monthly from your income.

  • The reason those homes have a ton of solar panels on their rooves is because they are trying to maintain AC powered appliances and other electronics with DC powered input. They should be buying DC powered appliances. These "big tech" companies need to focus on making either DC powered appliances or coming up with DC powered replacement parts for already standing AC powered appliances. A house that is 100% DC doesn't require so many panels.

  • You're getting ripped off bigtime in USA by these solar companies. Typical UK price for a 4kW system is £5,000 - £6,000. (roughly $7k to $8.5k). Battey backup is extra but then it was also an extra $10k in their film. Normally UK is more expensive on EVERYTHING than USA - except healthcare ;-)

    • @Greg Peterman in a solar heated (or cooled) house with heat pump (with also can cool air), the air circulates all year long even with closed windows, because if you stop it, the house deteriorates (mildew, humidity, etc).

    • @Greg Peterman An RV does not require 7000 kWh to 10000 kWh (for heat pump, air flow cold or warm and regular electricity) for a 200 squaremeter house with 5 people in it in regions with mild climate. Hence in those regions houses require 10 to 12 kW Photovoltaic solar installations. And with batteries they cost 30000 to 40000 dollars or euros depending on countries. Simply name me one company that does 10 to 12kW solar installations with batteries that last over 15 or over 20 years for 2000 or 3000 dollars.

    • @THE REAL ZENFORCE Not anymore, RV dwellers are cooling their rigs with solar, and going total electric without propane or gas generators now. No more than 2 or 3 thousand for the entire system.

      Greg PetermanGreg Peterman9 күн мурун
    • 8k for a full house energy heat pump heating and electricity. You speak of tiny solar panels that do not fully cover the energy consumption of heating (heat pump) and electric stuff (TV, computer, kitchen oven and plate, water heating). 30 to 40k with battery is a correct price for 12kW Photovoltaic panel roof.

    • It was $1 per watt (panel cost) a year ago, but at the discount place it has been as cheap as .50¢ per watt, and getting cheaper.

    • @Rodney Lewis In my house i will probably only break even in earliest 15 years with my solar installation.

    • @THE REAL ZENFORCE yes...this is the US where we, sadly, waste everything. 3000 sq ft house on 5 acres...the geothermal was comparatively cheap (about $15k), I had plenty of land for the ground loops & got 30% of the cost back immediately in a federal tax credit. I had actually just hit my break-even when we sold it & moved to the tropics. Sellers hood-winked us a bit by telling us their Winter bills were around $150. When that first bill came in at almost $700, we nearly passed-out...turned out they spent their Winters in Florida. Got down to $550 by dropping the t-stat to 66 F. Bills were in the $150 range after the geothermal year-round. I had done other things before the geothermal like a high-efficiency water heater, air sealing, additional attic insulation & ventilation, etc.

I'm a year in with ZERO maintenance costs so far. You have to do the math for your particular situation. I'll save enough by the time my system needs to be replaced to pay for it & still have money left over. Once they finally get their new net metering program going, my ROI time will decrease & I'll save even more money.
