How Arkansas Ban On Transition-Related Care Will Affect Minors | NBC News NOW

  • Finally, something to like about Arkansas.

  • Good for them! At least one state is moving in the right direction. Can you imagine the tragedy if a minor transitions or starts to transition then later realizes they made a mistake? Minors don't think and tend to act without thinking, it's a proven fact. This is why minors can't do a lot of things until they're older, permanent disfigurement or taking hormones with permanent effects *needs* to be one of those things.

    • @LostStudent Puberty blockers are drugs, but the point is nobody is dying from their own privates because it is not a virus. Sadly, they care too much about what they look like than to pay any attention to the pandemic that is killing us. There are people who are crippled with serious condition and hooked up by a machine just to survive, but a bunch of transgender activists walked out into the streets and tell everybody they are trapped in their own bodies? If they are not physically impaired or suffering from any critical symptom then what makes them believe they are in the wrong body?

    • "Can you imagine the tragedy if a minor transitions or starts to transition then later realizes they made a mistake?" Can you imagine the tragedy of trans kids committing suicide because they are forced to go through puberty because a politician decided they knew better than doctors/professionals? "Minors don't think and tend to act without thinking, it's a proven fact" What age did you figure out your gender? Where you treated as irrational? "This is why minors can't do a lot of things until they're older" This isn't smoking or drugs.

    • Really? Is your argument 'Why can't you just be satisfied with crippling depression from dysphoria?' But you are right. Trans people can't not be what they're not. That's the point of the transition.

  • I think it was justified that he vetoed and that Arkansas overruled that veto. How many of these children have been deluded into being what they are not by those closest to them? When your 18 and away from home, you must make that decision alone.

    TheZarricTheZarric11 күн мурун
    • 1. You don't need to be 18 to know what gender you are. At what age did you realize yours? 2. If you have treatment before 18, it's a lot easier than going through puberty, having all that awfulness, and then trying to correct it back, because some politician thought he knew better than the medical professionals and overrode them. So much for republicans being against overreach. 3. A very, very tiny portion of people 'de-transition'. Of those, a large majority had only partly transitions, and the most common reason for de-transitioning was from social pressure from their family. Are you going to make the majority of trans people suffer for the tiny percentage?

      LostStudentLostStudent7 күн мурун
  • I don't believe children or parents should make a decision like this until the child is 18. Children go through a lot of changes and a more mature child may change his/her mind.

    • “If allowing puberty to progress appears likely to harm the child, puberty should be suspended. There is nothing unethical with interfering with spontaneous development when spontaneous development causes great harm to the child. Indeed, it is unethical to let children suffer when their suffering can be alleviated.” - S Giordano in the Journal of Medical Ethics

    • @T K Its must be very convenient to use biased statistics that holds no neutrality. Consider these facts. Detransition occurs regardless which means that there are potential victims of outside influences playing rolls either for or against. Also, chemical treatments on minors is experimentation and unnecessary unless it's purpose is to save their life from a immediate threat to their life and the existence of the chromosomes x and y is NOT a immediate threat to anyone. These minors holding these beliefs have waited their very short lives to get this far, they can wait a little longer until they are 18, away from home and debate it with themselves before acting on such.

    • In a 2015 survey of nearly 28,000 people conducted by the U.S.-based National Center for Transgender Equality, only 8 % of respondents reported detransitioning, and 62 % of those people said they only detransitioned temporarily. The most common reason for detransitioning was pressure from a parent while only 0.4 % of respondents said they detransitioned after realizing transitioning wasn’t right for them. What option is available to the remaining 92% including trans females who must wait till 18 to transition resulting in permanent male physique-body, facial hair, deep voice, Adam’s apple-and then are unpassable, condemned, ridiculed, harassed, abused by society leading to high suicide rate. Consider the expensive medical costs of reversing the effects of puberty and the trauma of going through the wrong puberty with dysphoria. With professional care a trans child on blockers may improve mental health. Also, blockers are not experimental but have been used since the early 80’s to treat cis-gender children with precocious puberty.

    • Look, a 17 year old "kid" cannot even have a credit card with a $500 because he is deemed "not responsible with money". But he can ask to get his peener chopped off and it's his "right"? Not even ridiculous, this is...orders of magnitude beyond ridiculous. Insane.

      Randall VRandall V10 күн мурун
    • @Cheryl S Person-Tillman if you really care about kids you'd prevent them from doing something irreversible when they very well may (and *often do*) change their minds later, when it's too late. It is cruel to not protect a minor from their own decisions when it's known that minors don't think before they act like adults and there are many cases of minors being certain they want to transition, doing so, and then realizing they really made a mistake but are left with irreversible effects. Nobody is saying adults can't do it but if you love a kid you don't let them do whatever they want or make life changing decisions as children
